フランクフォートで大きな洪水が発生しています。
久しぶりの投稿がこんな話題で申し訳ないのですが、日本での報道は少ないため姉妹都市の危機をお伝えします。
使っている写真はどれも、私たちが交流している現地の方から寄せられたものですが、被害の大きさが伝わってきて胸が痛みます。
洪水が、最中だけでなく後処理もとても大変なことは、日本に住む皆さんならご存知のことと思います。
被害がこれ以上広がらず、姉妹都市の皆さんが無事であることを願ってやみません。

Hello everyone! I was further south in Kentucky around Whitley County and happened to be near Cumberland Falls. I attended a wedding that overlooked the Kentucky River and captured a few photos and video! You can see in the first few that the fog hadn’t settled in. However in the last photos you can see where it slowly began coming in while the sun set.

From Frankfort to Cumberland Falls is around a two hour drive. It’s around 157 km or 98 miles. Give or take the traffic and weather.

先日、ケンタッキー州南部のホイットリー郡、カンバーランドの滝の近くに行く機会がありました。
ケンタッキー川を見渡せる場所で行われた結婚式に参加したのですが、その時の様子を共有しますね！

最初のうちは、霧がまだ立ち込めていなかったよですが、時が経って夕日が沈むにつれて少しずつ霧が立ち込めていく様子がわかるでしょうか。

フランクフォートからカンバーランド滝までは車でおよそ2時間、約157キロ（98マイル）の距離です。
交通状況や天候にもよりますが、機会があればぜひ訪れてみてください！

フランクフォートのSeconds Street Schoolから、７年生のみなさんが庭園を題材に書いた絵の写真が届きました！
盆栽や小川のせせらぎ、鯉の泳ぐ池や茶室、仏像に三重塔…子供たちがどんなことを想像して書いたのか考えると、笑みがこぼれます。
個人的には、最後から二枚目の旧美の狐っぽジバニャンっぽいのが気になる…！

Today was Thanksgiving in America, family's get together
for the Holiday and eat Large Dinner's and get to see family members they may not often get to see.
We eat lots of good Southern Foods like Turkey, Ham,Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Macaroni & Cheese and lots more.
As for decorations, we decorate often with the same stuff each year. Gourds and Pumpkins as well. Pumpkin Pie is a really common dessert served during the fall season.Pumpkin Bread and Pumpkin Rolls are also comon.
They're all delicious and my family loves them all.

My Cousin Kelly's family's are one of those included! They all travel from Frankfort to Mount Sterling. We also play games such as Cornhole. The board you can see in this picture is for the game. It is a popularoutdoor game where players toss bean bags
onto a wooden board with a hole.

But to be honest, my favorite holiday to decorate for is Christmas. We have a competition with our neighbor to see who can put up the most decorations!

今日はアメリカの感謝祭でした。この祝日には家族がみんな集まって大勢で夕食を食べる。普段なかなか会えない遠方の親族にも会うことができるんだ。ターキーにハム、マッシュポテト、スタッフィング、マカロニ＆チーズ、おいしい南部料理がたくさん出てくる！

感謝祭の飾り付けには、毎年同じものを飾ることが多いんだ。人形のほか、ひょうたんやかぼちゃも飾る。パンプキン・パイは秋の季節によく出されるデザートで、カボチャの入ったパンやパンプキン・ロールもよく食べてるよ。どれもとってもおいしくて、家族みんな大好きな味です。

いとこのケリーの家族も、フランクフォートからマウント・スターリングまで来てくれました。それからコーンホールなんかのゲームを楽しんだよ。といっても、日本では聞き覚えがないかな？　写真に写っている、「UK」のサインが書いてあるのがゲーム用のボード。穴が開いている部分に豆袋を投げて遊ぶゲームで、この時期には人気なんだよ。

でも正直なところ、僕が一番好きなのは、クリスマスの飾りつけ。毎年近所の人と、どこが一番たくさんデコれるかを競争するんだ！

Oyamazaki Villa is a historic building owned by the Asahi Group. It was originally built as a villa by Shotaro Kaga, a young and wealthy businessman from the Kansai region. The elaborate decorations and magnificent gardens reflect how much he loved this place. Although it was once threatened with demolition, thanks to the efforts of the locals and Asahi Breweries Ltd., it is now open to the public as an art museum.

The current Oyamazaki Villa was completed around 1932. The intricate wall decorations, featuring motifs of bamboo shoots, and a small pond reminiscent of Monet's famous Water Lilies painting are among the building's most admired features. However, my favorite view is from the first-floor staircase lobby, where the candy-colored staircase handrail softly glimmers in the light streaming through the stained glass above.

My heart trembles when I think of the people who used to gather here, back when this villa was still a holiday home—what brought them here, and what they talked about as they leaned against the beautiful, smooth wooden pillars. I can almost see the scene.

The garden surrounding the villa is filled with various seasonal trees and plants, such as cherry trees, water lilies, maples, and ginkgo trees. One of its greatest attractions is that there is always something new to discover, no matter when you visit.

Inside the building, there is a small café with a wide terrace, which was originally the bedroom of the Kaga couple. Visitors can relax here while enjoying a breathtaking view of the junction of three major rivers—the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu Rivers—which is also one of Japan's historically significant battlefields.

In addition, the museum often hosts periodic exhibitions, making it an attractive place where you’ll never get bored.

Last Sunday, I went to Arashiyama in Kyoto. The automun leaves are so beautiful right now.
Arashiyama is very close to Shimamoto, It just a 30-minutes train ride on the Hankyu Line.

It is one of my favourite places,and I hope I can take you guys there one day...

なにしろはじめての試みで、どんなものになるのか、そもそも応募がきてくれるのか不安だったのですが、おかげさまでこちらも大成功のうちに終了しました。
高校生のみなさんによるスピーチはどなたのものもすばらしく、本当ならその全容をぜひ皆さんにもお見せしたいところなのですが、プライバシー配慮の観点から、今回はひかえさせていただいています。ほんのわずかでも、彼らのスピーチの質や国際交流に対するモチベーションの高さを感じてもらえれば良いのですが。

ケリヤホールでの舞台はトップバッターとして出演！　島本町を代表するバンド、サウスパーキングさんの演奏にのせてフランクフォートの美しい写真で構成した動画を放映するほか、2023年に派遣した親善大使・横山さんの講演を実施。

さらにふれあいセンター２階、第一交流室では、親善大使報告やフランクフォートの地図・観光名所などの情報をパネル展示します。
舞台で放映した動画を含む、６本もの動画を放映したり、プレゼント付き��クイズも行いますよ！
来年予定されているフランクフォート市長来訪時にお渡しする、メッセージカードも募集中。
みなさん、来てくださいね！

A unique event encouraging people to experience Shimamoto while enjoying whisky was held from September 27th to 29th.

This event was originally planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Suntory Yamazaki Distillery last year. However, the organizers decided to continue the event to deepen people's understanding and recognition of our town.

At this event, visitors could enjoy various whisky-based cocktails, all of which were themed around Shimamoto.

Eleven bars and cafes, along with six local food shops, were selected to celebrate this year's event. Each stall served unique and intriguing drinks and food. People, including our mayor, Mr. Kohei Yamada, bought what they liked and enjoyed them under the autumn sky.

晴れた日曜日の午後、山崎ウラロジ食堂でランチしてきました！
サントリー山崎蒸留所の踏切すぐそばにある小さなCAFÉ＆Restaurant、山崎ウラロジ食堂。撮り鉄には有名な「山崎カーブ」にも近いここは、なんと線路わきギリギリから電車が拝めるという、超珍しいスポット。美味しい料理に舌鼓を打ちながら、窓際の席のすぐわきを駆け抜ける電車をありえないほどのローアングルから眺められるのです！
昼間は日替わりランチから大人気だというオムライス、沖縄仕込みのタコライスにガパオライス、ロコモコなど豊富なメニューから選べるランチ、夜はバータイムもあるとあって、島本の地元民から撮り鉄のみなさん、山崎蒸留所を訪れる観光客にも人気とのこと。機会があればぜひ、訪れてみてください。京都線の運行本数はかなり多いので、一度訪れればほぼ必ず、走る電車を見上げる機会がありますよ。

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, I had lunch at Yamazaki Uraroji-Shokudo. The restaurant is located next to the railroad crossing point near Yamazaki Distillery. This small restaurant and café is proud of its rare view of the railroad and trains, as well as its diverse lunch menu. Since the restaurant is about 1.3 meters lower than the railroad, you can see the trains passing by at eye level! This unique feature makes it a favorite among train enthusiasts, known as 撮り鉄 (toritetsu: train fans who especially enjoy taking pictures of trains).

You can enjoy various lunch options such as Omelet Rice, Taco Rice (taco-seasoned ground beef on a bed of rice with salsa sauce), Gapao Rice (fried rice with basil), and Loco Moco Rice. In the evening, you can enjoy beer and, of course, whiskey while taking in the night view of Yamazaki Distillery.

It's worth a visit if you want to see trains from an incredibly low angle!

今年も島本駅に、七夕飾りが翻る季節になりました。
梅雨明けしたかと思われるような晴天の下、町内の保育所・幼稚園に通う子供たちが書いた幼い願い事が風にゆれています。みんなの願いが叶うことを祈っています。

Tanabata is a Japanese festival celebrated on the evening of July 7th. During this festival, people write their wishes on colorful paper strips called 短冊 (tanzaku) and hang them on bamboo branches. This festival originated from a Chinese legend about lovers separated by the Emperor of Heaven, who placed the Milky Way between them. Due to their laziness at work, they were allowed to be together just once a year. The day they can reunite is July 7th. It is said that on their happy reunion, Orihime and Hikoboshi will make people’s wishes come true.
The wishes kids write are so simple and innocent. I hope their wishes come true.
